24th edition of International Kurzfilmtage Winterthur held in hybrid format

Tickets for the 24th edition of Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur – held in a hybrid format for the first time this year – are now available. Like every year, short films can be enjoyed in cinemas – in Winterthur itself at Casinotheater and Kino Cameo, as well as in various other Swiss cities, amongst others in Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, and Zurich.

Outside of cinemas, the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur create settings where people can move around freely. There will be open-air screenings with an original sound design in four of Winterthur’s city parks. Some shorts programmes as well as the Industry Events will be held in digital space.

All seats are numbered, and reservations are required for all screenings. They recommend purchasing tickets in advance. Masks are mandatory at all festival venues – including their cinemas in Winterthur – and must be worn at all times

More about the protective measures at the festival site will be published here soon.

And since there will be many filmmakers not be able to travel to Switzerland, the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur are offering their Industry Labs online. For more information and on how you can take part visit their website

New Protection Concept by Swissfilm Association

In consultation with the Department of Economics of the canton of Zurich the Swissfilm Assoication published a protection concept under Covid-19 influence for commercial and corporate film shootings. The protection concept will be constantly updated regarding the possible coming easing restrictions by the government. Updates will be communicated on their website.

The Department of Economics of the canton of Zurich also confirmed that TV and film productions can use the protection concept of the Swissfilm Association as well, as long as they won't have published a protection concept on their own. A special task force is currently working on a protection concept for TV and film productions and will publish it in the coming weeks.

If your production gets inspected you have to show them the protection concept printed out.

We will keep you updated on this matter on our website and our Facebook-channel.

We hope you all are well and we are happy that productions slowly get picked up again.

Information regarding filming in the city and canton of Zurich in times of Corona-sanctions

Effective 18th of March 2020, 11:00 AM

The Film Commission Zurich is in touch with the city and canton of Zurich and operates at full stretch to stay informed on what repercussions the national and local sanctions in relation to the Corona-crisis (might and will) have on audiovisual productions in Zurich.

Update - filming in Zurich in regard to the Corona-sanctions:

The municipal police of Zurich announced on Tuesday evening 17th of March 2020 new guidelines as a reaction to the new sanctions announced by the Swiss government on Monday 16th of March 2020 in association with the Corona crisis.

Media release by the municipal police of Zurich, Tuesday 17th of March 2020, 04:50 PM (only in German)

From now on gatherings of at least 15 people are not tolerated.

The Film Commission Zurich can not yet officially confirm that these tightenings also count for already permitted filming in Zurich. However, we assume that the new guidelines by the municipal police also concern filming with at least 15 people.

Also our industry must take responsibility by helping not to contain the Corona-virus as we quit filming with at least 15 people and support

Taking into account the current situation, we recommend to immediately stop all productions (even those with less than 15 people) and act self-responsible.

As everybody else we have to take responsibility to not continue to help spreading the Corona virus and hereby support our health care system as much as we can.

The situation can change daily and nobody knows how the sanctions will develop within the nexr weeks and months.

IMPORTANT:
Please inform the professional association SONART about all loss of earnings and cancelled/interrupted/stopped productions. SONART built a website due to the Corona-crisis - not only for musicians but also for all people working in film and the audiovisisual industry. The more documented cases they have, the better they can demonstrate what financial consequences the decisions by the national and local government had on the audiovisual industry.
Members of the professional association SSFV can get more information here.

The Film Commission Zurich can still be contacted by phone from Mondays - Thursdays. We will try to answer all of your questions as good as we can.

Naturally we will keep you posted about all the new information and updates we will get.

Thank you for your patience.

Virus-free greetings,
your Film Commission Zurich team

Information regarding filming in the city and canton of Zurich in times of Corona-sanctions

Effective 17th of March 2020, 12:30 PM

The Film Commission Zurich is in touch with the city and canton of Zurich and operates at full stretch to stay informed on what repercussions the national and local sanctions in relation to the Corona-crisis (might and will) have on audiovisual productions in Zurich.

We were already successful in getting a first statement by the representative of the city and the canton of Zurich.

Filming in the City of Zurich:
Currently there is no (NOT YET) legal basis that would forbid filming in the city despite the current sanctions.
Filming permits that are already permitted are still valid as long as the police do not withdraw them.
New filming requests can still be submitted and will be processed.
Hence, filming in Zurich can be conducted with respect to the hygienic measures.

Filming in the Canton of Zurich:
Also in the canton of Zurich filming is (so far) not prohibited. Please contact the respective borough you are planning to film at and clarify under which conditions you are allowed to film there.

Despite the continuing permission to film we recommend all of you to thoroughly ponder your decision to continue filming in spite of the ruling sanctions and exhortation by the government.
We do not want to support the mass panic, but we appeal to you to act self-responsible and independently decide if it is truly worth to continue filming under these circumstances.

Film Commission supports Green Shooting!

Green Shooting or Green Producing is one of the most discussed topics concerning our industry - not only in Switzerland but also internationally.

Compared to other countries Switzerland already produces films much more climate-friendly since years as it is even more cheaper for us to make the movies with the budgets we get. We get electricity on location and try not to work with gennys. We try to keep our vehicle fleet as low as possible and travel to locations in the city via public transportation. We recycle and separate our waste. But also we have to upgrade our awareness and still a lot to do to reduce our CO2 emission.
We are working on new ideas, inputs and more information on that subject. More will follow on our website.

But in a first step the Film Commission Zurich (with support from SSFV and Zurich Filmfunds) proudly presents our new location-mugs. Avoid more waste and stop using disposable mugs. You can now get the mugs for your shoot for free from us. Just let us know how many you will need and come by our office to get them. The early bird gets the worm!
