City Council decides to supervise filming in Zurich more efficiently

On October 3, 2018, the Zurich City Council met and talked not only about the fate of the Film Commission Zurich, but also about the necessary improvement of urban support for filming of audiovisual productions in the city of Zurich.

In the media release, the City of Zurich justifies its decision to continue to support the Film Commission Zurich as follows:
"A continuation of the" Film Commission Zurich "and thus a promotion of the entire film industry is both from a cultural-political perspective and from the point of view of economic development desirable and useful - (...). [Nbsp]
In addition to this support from the "Zurich Film Office" association, the City Council is reaffirming its endeavor to further strengthen the film location of Zurich with efficient approval processes and pronounced customer and customer orientation on the part of the city administration and to handle the increased volume of audiovisual productions efficiently. "

We warmly recommend all of you to read the City Council resolution carefully and use it as a back-up for your future requests to support your filming. This should open us more stones out of the way spaces and open new doors.
You can find the city council decision as well as the media release of the city of Zurich on our website under Downloads.

We thank the City Council and all stakeholders for their support not only for the Film Commission Zurich, but for all audiovisual productions.

New deals with Zurichs Hotel Placid and 25hours Hotel

Well, we all know this, right? For every shoot we are looking for low-priced Hotels for our crew and cast, in which we can adapt our breakfast times, get warm food until late in the evening and park all our vehicles. And yes, Zurich indeed poses quite a challenge when it comes to find such a place to stay...

... and that's where we come into play. We negotiated new conditions for film productions with the Hotel Placid in Zurich Altstetten and the 25hours Hotel close to the main station at Langstrasse and in Zurich West. If you book the rooms through the Film Commission Zurich you will get special conditions relative to the availability.

For more information regarding price, parking or further conditions please get in touch welcome@filmzurich.ch

Zurichs department of sports issued a new scale of fees

The Film Commission Zurich successfully negotiated with Zurichs department of sports (division of public baths and athletic grounds) a new scale of fees:

- The department of sports charges CHF 150.- per hour for film and foto shootings on sports facilities and public baths.
- If the request is handed in by the Film Commission Zurich (upon the recommendation of Olga Zachariadis), a reduction of 60% will be granted leading to a fee of CHF 150.- per hour. This reduction is associated with the public interest to strengthen Zurich as a film industry location.
- This fee includes the personnel costs of the department of sports. Particular expenses as electricity, water, waste disposal, floodlight, etc. will be charged additionally.
- This special arrangement will be applied after inspection and does not form any legal claim.

We would like to thank Zurichs department of sports for their complaisance and support to strengthen Zurich as a film industry location.

A clear no to No-Billag!

Happy NO-to-No-Billag-Day everyone! We did it! Switzerland clearly decided against the No-Billag initiative. We are enthusiastic about the big NO and the hereby saved jobs of thousands of Swiss filmmakers.

The Swiss filmmakers thank everyone with the following statement (refering to their campaign clips):
"We all did it! David will be able to attend all of his school subjects, we saved Rosmarie Bärtschi out of the burning house and Zurichs pavements will stay public.
The Swiss filmmakers would like to thank everyone with deep gratitude who participated in this campaign and voted today with a loud NO that also supports Swiss films.
Now we can finally breathe again and start celebrating.
We are proud of Switzerland. Enjoy your Sunday, have a great start into the new week and all the best. Thank you so much!"

We join their celebration and pop the corks!
Enjoy the beginning of spring!

Swiss filmmakers against No-Billag!

On the 4th of march Switzerland will be voting for or against the continuation of the SRG. In the case of an admission of the NoBillag-Initiative there will be no Television or Radio subsidised by the State anymore. Meaning: no Service Public and a huge (financial) loss for Swiss culture - especially the Swiss film industry.

The initiative endangers directly 6'900 jobs of the SRG, but 13'500 in total. Producers, technicians, actors, editors and suppliers depending on the film industry are directly affected and even see their existence threatened to a high degree.

To get the attention Swiss filmmakers gathered around director Martin Guggisberg and created (free of charge) three spots.

We would like to thank ALL OF YOU for your service in this important fight! We will vote NO on the 4th of march!

You can find all the spots and further information here: https://www.filmschaffende-gegen-nobillag.ch/
